2010 CARPe Diem Mt Bike Fest - Oct 17th<--Posted Thursday, September 2, 2010 by Gary

2010 CARPe Diem Mt Bike Fest - October 17 – Burns Park – North Little Rock, AR

www.carpediemmtbfest.com

Arkansas Cycling and Fitness page appears to have the latest....

Course Description:

This will be a fun & fast twist to the ever popular Burns Park trail system. The start/finish will be next to the Pavilion at the Victory Lake Parking Lot (water ski lake) on Tournament Dr. This area will be closed to cars to make a safe start/finish area for all racers and spectators. From the start, racers will go east on Tournament Drive, crossing the bridge over White Oak Bayou. After the Bayou, turn left onto the dirt road into the old quarry and dirt jump area. Turn left at the first trail entrance at the top of the hill from the dirt road - this is the one with the board crossing the ditch. Turn left on the trail for a clockwise route. Stay on trail past the freeride area, down the hill towards Arlene Laman Dr. and the BMX track. Cross Arlene Laman Drive.

**Note** This is the first of 4 road crossings. All crossings will be manned with volunteers, but racers cross at their own risk and are urged to use the utmost caution since the race organizers will be unable to close these roads. After crossing Arlene Laman, turn right on the short track trail to do a "half lap" of the short track trails.

After half lap, turn right when intersecting main trail again and cross the paved road going to the camp ground going up the hill. At top of hill turn left on (red) trail, then take first trail on the right (orange trail). Follow trails to the left to the intersection with Arlene Laman Dr. at the covered bridge. Cross road with caution and enter the Yellow trail to the left. Take left on the Yellow Mound trail up and over mound, and left back onto yellow trail at the bottom. Just before horse parking area turn left onto White Trail and follow it right until it again intersects with Red. Follow Red to top of hill at 3rd crossing of Arlene Laman, cross road and stay right onto.....more at the link above...

  •  BACA Meeting - Thursday, Sept 2 - 7:00 PM<--Posted Sunday, August 29, 2010 by Gary
BACA Meeting - Thursday, Sept 2, 7:00 PM at the Oyster Bar - 3003 W Markham, Little Rock AR.

    Clinton Park Bridge Report:
Jordan Johnston of the Clinton Foundation will be there to share with you their latest plans for the renovation of the former Rock Island Bridge, now known as the Clinton Park Bridge.

Development Plans Threaten River Mountain Road!

A developer, North Slope Company, LLC, is planning to seek an easement from the City of Little Rock to allow access via River Mountain Road to a new housing development to be built on the north side of Walton Heights, overlooking the Arkansas River near the Two Rivers Bridge. Since this area is landlocked, the developer will be filing a petition at the September City Board meeting to allow for construction and resident motor vehicle access to this area via a road extension to be constructed along the bottom of the hill between the river bank and the Arkansas Midland Railroad right-of-way, and by a second road to be constructed approximately halfway up River Mountain Road.

This will greatly increase the amount of motor vehicle traffic on River Mountain Road as well as take the area currently used as a parking area behind the U.S. Coast Guard station.

The BACA Board voted at our August meeting to take a position that we (BACA) are deeply concerned about the River Trail System and will take appropriate action to protect the integrity and accessibility of the River Trail. BACA will issue a formal statement about the proposed easement once we learn where it will be intersecting River Mountain Road, and will urge our members to write City Board members and attend the City Board meeting on September 7th.

Little Rock Bicycle Polo and much more! You don't want to miss this! See you there!

    From BRAIN

IMBA has released a newly redesigned Web site at www.imba.com.

Upgrades include an eye-pleasing design that displays engaging images and bigger fonts. Navigation and search functions have been streamlined, and IMBA has replaced outdated material so you'll easily find its best information, according to a press release.

Also, be sure to check out the use of interactive maps that allow you to locate trail projects, find an IMBA-affiliated bike shop and explore the work IMBA is doing near you. You can also login to your account (whether you're an individual, corporate or other member category) to find out when your membership expires, make a donation or change your contact information.

Members and registered users will need to create a new account on the new site. You can use the e-mail address that you provided with your old account as your username and request a new password.

So, what's missing? Tell IMBA about the features and functionality you'd like to see added—or about familiar web pages that you can no longer find—by sending a message to info@imba.com
