Springhill On-Line Registration Now open<--Posted Monday, February 26, 2007 by Gary
Copped from Bike Arkansas Forums

Springhill On-Line Registration Now open...

Pre-registration is preferred. It will save you a lot of time race morning, and does not cost you anymore than race day registration. Last year we had 225 riders. 3 pre-registered. Those three riders got through the line in about 30 seconds each, versus the 5-10 minutes everyone else had to wait.

We are expecting 300 or more riders this year, since it is also being advertised in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Kansas.

See you on the trails.

There will be a BACA meeting March 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the Oyster Bar. Eric Meyerson, Planning Manager with Central Arkansas Transit Authority (CAT) will be present to discuss CAT's plans to install bicycle racks on all the buses.

In addition, there will be an update on recent BACA activities as well as discussion of planned activities, including Bike to Work Day. Please plan on attending to support CAT’s efforts and to learn more about what BACA has planned and how you can help. As always, there will be good food and good company.

BACA and the Bike Friendly Community have a booth at the Little Rock Marathon Expo on March 2 and 3rd. We need volunteers to staff the booth for two days. If you can help, plese contact Claibanne Williamson at claibanne@sbcglobal.net or call 952-8229. She also needs a few "torch wranglers" to help light a torch periodically along the way at certain points for a wheelchair person(s) but you don't have to follow the whole route. She has more info posted on the BACA forum, www.bacar.org or the ABC forum at www.arkansasbicycleclub.org.

Remember, First Friday Bike to Work Day on March 2nd at 6:45 A.M. Please note time change.

Boy Scouts need Mountain Bike help<--Posted Monday, February 5, 2007 by Gary
The Boy Scouts are looking for a young (16-21) enthusiastic mountain bike rider with some repair skills to run a program this summer. Their camp has about 3000 acres with more trails to ride than time. They usually run 12-15 campers per week. The camp is located north of Conway and has all of the convinces of home. We would prefer age 18+ but will consider 16 and 17 year olds, especially as the 2nd instructor.

Please pass the word around and have them contact Bill Price with the Boy Scouts at 664-4780.

Kenya Calls Again...<--Posted Friday, February 2, 2007 by Gary
Kenya Calls Again

Many of you already know by now that in a couple of weeks I will be returning to Kenya. This year I will be serving with a team of Physicians and nurses, helping out where ever I can. As that is going on, several of our pastors from local churches in Arkansas will be having a “Pastors Conference” there, at the local church. Our liaison, Pastor Fred is very excited and has been anticipating this day for a long time (there is no seminary there, not to mention little money available for formal training, so most of their pastors are self taught or apprenticed under elder pastors). I spoke with Pastor Fred yesterday and he asked if there was any way we could raise funds for bikes for all the Pastors that would attend. None of these men own cars and most walk from place to place to visit church members. He realizes it is late notice, but the thought of sending these men home with not only valuable training, but the means to travel further, and reach more people with the Good news of Christ’s love for them, makes this urgent call important. So once again, I will call on my friends here in the states. We can still purchase bikes for $55 each. I will need around 40. Last time we had raised more than enough money for over 60 bikes (but I had three months). Please visit the web site www.kenyarelief.org

And view the video (quicktime). You can see the joy and learn of the mission as a whole, the kids at the orphanage, the new dorms, the water projects, the aid in local hospitals, and of course there is footage of me getting to hand these beautiful people their bikes, that many of you bought just for them. If you missed this opportunity last time, don’t delay; don’t miss the blessing that comes from giving to someone that you may never meet. If you helped with the last campaign “Thank you” and please consider once again helping the people of Kenya.

Pics from last Kenya trip here

Thank you,
Gary Lamb
