Tour De Georgia....Discover Adventures Discount...........<--Posted Wednesday, November 17, 2004 by Gary
|
Last year 750,000 visitors witnessed Lance Armstrong win the 2nd annual Dodge Tour de Georgia (www.DodgeTourdeGeorgia.com). It wasn’t without effort, as portions of the Southern Appalachians wreaked havoc on the peloton with steep uphill grades of over 20% on Brasstown Bald separated the men from the boys.
The third annual event, again sponsored by Dodge, is expected to draw more people, more coverage, and another top notch field of teams. The race is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 19th in Augusta, GA (home of The Masters) and conclude on Sunday, April 24th in Alpharetta, GA (a northern suburb of Atlanta). The race will have seven stages, including a world-class time trial course in Rome, GA and two significant mountain stages through the Chattahoochee National Forest. Fans that lined the ascent to Brasstown Bald truly engaged in a domesticated version of Alp d’Huez in France, with crowds reaching three and four people deep for the brutal two mile climb.
The Dodge Tour de Georgia organization has licensed Discover Adventures, a tour operator based in Atlanta, GA to provide several events and tours associated with the 2005 DTdG.
To kick your Spring training off, Frankie Andreu will be directing the P.R.O. Series – Part I (Proficient Riding Outdoors) designed for recreational riders desiring cycling savvy. Base camp for the 6 day, 5 night spring training clinic on March 13-18th will be at one of Georgia’s most beautiful state parks, Unicoi State Park & Lodge. The daily rides will be 3-4 hours long, encompassing many of the same roads as the 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia will be on a month later. The P.R.O. Series will feature several of Frankie’s colleague’s from the US Postal Service team to fill out the coaching roster. In addition to the daily rides, there will be lectures, massage therapy, one-on-one coaching with Frankie, video taping sessions, and group coaching sessions as well.
For the 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia, Discover Adventures has posted five tours from which to choose from during the race. As the official tour operator of the Dodge Tour de Georgia, Discover Adventures is afforded privileges for their guests that are not available to the general public. Each day, ride the actual race course fully supported by a seasoned guide team. At each stage finish, after riding the race route, step up to the exclusive race observation area reserved for our guests. And sit down next to one of your favorite cyclists during the team dinner we’re invited to.
The Luxury Tour is for couples only, and accommodations will be in bed & breakfasts throughout Georgia. The VIP Tour will be hosting celebrity riders each day whereby this group will ride and eat shoulder-to-shoulder with cycling VIP’s throughout the week. Two standard tours, the Weeklong and the weekend version, will follow each stage and finally, on the Economy Tour guests will ride two stages, watch 2 stages and sleep two nights before heading home.
Full details can be found online at www.DiscoverAdventures.com/tdg.asp.
Should any members of the C.A.R.P. choose to participate in any of the Dodge Tour de Georgia events, please mention your association with CARP, and Discover Adventures will credit 5% off the trip of their choice. You must be a registered CARP member to enjoy the 5% discount. Gary

In addition, a Little Rock bicycle patrol officer will speak about the experiences of being a bicycle patrol officer, including the physical demands of the job. Please plan on attending to show your support for Little Rock's finest. We will also have a report on the recent BACA Board meeting and an update on developments affecting bicyclists in Central Arkansas. ******************************* We haven't recieved much feedback on a CARP Mt Biking series - if this sounds interesting and you would participate...send me an e-mail

Thank-You Steve.....<--Posted Wednesday, November 10, 2004 by Gary

Some of you maybe bored with Kudos, but I have to mention one more. We really do need to thank this guy too! Next time you see Steve Shepherd - just say thanks for all he's done for the cycling outdoors community.
Steve goes way back.....Longer then most of us remember. He rocks the Houze! He's raced professionally for Wal-mart, Burger Barn, and a host of others. This year as in past years, he was the chief official at the 100 Minutes of CARP. An Avid Outdoorsman, Cyclist, and Paddler...the man is a true example of a dedicated servant to all these worlds. The Who's Who of cyclist in my mind. Loaded with wisdom and Fat Tire (kiddin on the Fat Tire - 1554 is his fav), he's always ready and willing to help the new wipper-snappers. THANK-YOU STEVE for all you do brother! :-)

100 Minutes of C.A.R.P. Results posted.....<--Posted Sunday, November 7, 2004 by Gary
|
The 100 Minutes of C.A.R.P. race results are posted over at Chainwheel....see it here.
Thanks to everyone that came out and either supported or raced the CARP 100 - and a big thanks to Russ Oaks for helping fund our annual mtb event!
We are working on a mtb chase-race series. I would like to gather feedback on the interest level for a CARP Chase-Race Series. The event would be a friendly once or twice a month race/fun ride at Camp. Maybe on the Sport trail that we rode this weekend. Give people (like me, slower) a head start to try to beat the fast guys who will start later. A handicap system of sorts. Please let me know if your interested in something like this and if you would participate. I will start an e-mail list for the chase race roll-out.

Hey Everyone! - Nov 6th, 2004
"Right-Click" here and "Save Target As" for the Nov 6th, 2004 Syllamo's Revenge Mountain Bike Challenge Registration form - (.doc format). Fill Out, and attach to an email to me:
steveparker@mvtel.net
...so we can get on the trail as early as possible, and to make sure that we have enough food at the rest stops, AND for the Shrimp Boil after the ride. Please fill this out and return it to me via email, or to the fax # below if you wish. If you know of anyone else who plans to come, please be sure that they have contacted me to let me know. We are preparing for the shrimp boil, and need to know how many people will be eating. We want to make sure we have plenty of food, but at the same time, want to make sure we donate as much of the proceeds as possible to the Forest Service for Phase III construction. Registration will start at 8am, the pre-ride meeting will be at 8:45, and we’ll ride at 9.
Looks like the weather will be great for the ride. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday morning at the Big Pavilion at Blanchard Springs Recreation Area. I know that you're going to love the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail! Thanks! Steve
P.S. Steve, send me the Fax number...I didn't see it anywhere's on the form or e-mail. Thankee Gary
