  • UPDATE on the Trails - 3/26/04 - 8:40 PM CST:
Don't want to take away from the new CARP jerseys...had a trail update. Just talked to Brandon, He said they suggested we should build a trail parallel to the Freeway (fifty yards in) to access the trails that will be cut off by closeing Freeway. Freeway is closed off limits, they are throwing trees down on it and it is dangerous. The good news is this seems to be the worst of it, where they are, is where the new building will be. As soon as the logging is done, it will become a construction zone and anyone entering the bounderys could be arrested. I will get with the site supervisor asap.

    Brandon's note.....Gary,

I was stopped by one of the supervisors for the project that took over our upper trails. No, we weren’t doing anything wrong; he just wanted to find out some information about the location of the various trails.
What was explained to me is that all of the area that is being cleared is for the new airport expansion and that area will be off limits.
This area, once the logs are cleared, will become a construction site quickly. He said that the freeway will be the boundary.
He defined what areas we could cut in a new connecting trail and I told him that I would pass it along to you. Since the freeway is the boundary, he suggested cutting a new trail 50 yards in from the freeway. This will cut off some of the existing trails, but it will keep up well within the boundaries of our area and out of the way of the construction and will be out of the way of any future clearing needed for a perimeter road. He stated that if you needed further clarification contact the PD and ask them to contact the site supervisor to verify this information.

Just thought I would pass it along.
    Brandon

  •  Camp Logging Status Update.....<--Posted Monday, March 22, 2004 by Gary
  • Sorry for the delay getting the latest logging info out......in a nutshell the following has transpired:

    1. Main Entrance is gone - The only way in to the trails is going down to Zig-Zag or Double-Dip trail and going in...or going to the winter parking off the Airport loop which is along 26th or Cato I think.

    2. Berm Trail is partially gone and will completely disappear - do not get on this trail. You will be asked to get off the trail by the logging folks.

    3. Easy Street is gone.

    4. Freeway is partially gone and will disappear.

We're still assessing the situation and action plan...will update asap.

  • On a lighter note....C.A.R.P. Jerseys will be available very soon. Stay tuned for some jersey pics. The Jerseys will be available online in standard sizes.

  • National Bike to Work Day, Friday May 21st - Should we have a North Little Rock & Little Rock Starting Location? - Read On - Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas is organizing the third annual National Bike to Work Day ride for Central Arkansas on Friday, May 21st. The ride is set to begin at 7:00 a.m. at the Murray Lock & Dam and will end at the River Market. Breakfast snacks, showers and rides to work or to return to the start site will be provided.

In order to include and promote the North Little Rock side of the trail, we are considering starting another group in North Little Rock at Burns Park on the Trail. The North Little Rock group would meet the Little Rock group in downtown Little Rock and ride to the River Market. However, we are concerned about diluting participation by having two separate groups. THEREFORE, WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON PARTICIPATING IN THE RIDE AND WHICH ROUTE YOU WOULD USE – THE NORTH LITTLE ROCK OR LITTLE ROCK ROUTE? PLEASE LET US KNOW BY REPLY E-MAIL OR BY PHONE (see below).

It is important to have as many people as possible participate in the event to get maximum media exposure. Last year we had about 50 people join the ride and we hope to significantly increase
    participation this year.

There will be more information on Bike To Work Day in future e-mails from chairs Renee Buchholtz and Monty and Denise Cole. This e-mail is merely to assess whether we should expand our efforts to include a North Little Rock contingent.

Please respond by Wednesday, March 21st with your suggestions/ideas to ksgould@ualr.edu. or call 225-5343 (home).

Also, our next BACA meeting will be April 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oyster Bar. More details will be forthcoming.

  •  Logging at Camp Status....<--Posted Wednesday, March 17, 2004 by Gary
  • Got slammed at work today and was unable to get out to Camp. Basil Hicks is riding tonight to check out the logging and report back. Will get a report posted out here as soon as possible. The Mt biking trails however are open and members can ride. If you get close to the logging area, you'll be told to "move along" to another trail until the logging is completed. We're not quite sure yet of the impact on the trails. It could be we can resurrect trails fairly easily. We'll have to see the recon report. Go Basil!

  •  Logging at Camp.....<--Posted Wednesday, March 17, 2004 by Gary
  • Got a heads-up from John while he was out riding in Camp yesterday....Guess what -- Camp has decided to do a little logging right in the middle of our trails!!

    Hi Gary,
Just got back from riding Camp and it would seem that we are going to lose some trails to logging--77 acres of logging to be exact. EZ Street is already gone completely, and based on the map at the Camp police station it looks like Berm and most, if not all, of Yucca are next. For obvious reasons riders are not allowed in the areas where the logging is going on, and I couldn't really get a straight answer about what was off-limits and what was open. I know that everything west of Freeway is open, but we may lose everything to the east (again, I couldn't get a clear answer on that). Thought you would want to know about those developments. Maybe you can get the definitive information on what we're losing and what we're keeping.

    John

I'm on my way out there today and will update the status here on the scoop.

    Thanks John
  •  CARP Membership Notes.....<--Posted Monday, March 15, 2004 by Gary
  • Several folks CARP memberships just expired, so will review the quick notes on managing your C.A.R.P. membership online:

    1. Upon membership expiration(assuming we have your correct e-mail address) each C.A.R.P. member will recieve an e-mail 2 days before your membership expires. After 7 days the membership is automatically deleted. Basically if you forget to renew, a member can use the online sign-up form or obtain the membership at a local bike shop/regular mail.

    2. Visa and Mastercard are the only credit cards accepted for online registration. The online process walks you thru two online forms. Filling out the first form and ignoring the second form does not buy your membership. Both online forms must be filled out completely with your credit card information to purchase your C.A.R.P membership online.

    3. C.A.R.P. Memberships are available at local participating bike shops or through snail mail as always. If you purchase your C.A.R.P. membership at a local bike shop or through snail mail, your online profile tool takes 7 to 10 days to appear on the site. If you do not provide an e-mail address on the sign-up form, you won't be able to recieve e-mail updates about managing your online profile.

    4. The CARP online engine here does extensive credit card validation and checking. Your card number is always encrypted and never viewable except by you while your signing up. We do not see the number nor is it stored on the server here. Your encrypted number and encrypted data are passed directly to the banks involved for the transaction. Remember....a C.A.R.P one year membership is less then a full slab of ribs from Tony Roma's. :-)

    5. Please do not try to use your e-mail receipt to gain entrance to Camp Robinson. You will be turned away unless you have your official C.A.R.P. membership card. Always carry your offical CARP membership card with you while at Camp Robinson.

    6. Family memberships have gone away. If your a bike shop, do not issue family memberships. If this happens for a large family, some folks will not get membership cards.

  • Thanks

  • Robbie Rose now has his permanent Prosthesis and is adjusting well and would like to thank the cycling community for all their continuing support.

  • Tour De Rock is in the works.....more details to follow.
