Arkansas State House Bill 2511<--Posted Tuesday, March 13, 2007 by Gary
|
This evening BACA received the following notice:
“Arkansas State House Bill 2511 (establishing a requirement of motorists giving at least 3 feet of clearance when overtaking a bicycle) will be presented in the House Public Transportation Committee tomorrow morning, March 13, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the business of the committee may perm it, in Room 428 of the Arkansas State Capitol. Please spread the word and get as many friends and cyclists as possible to either contact their legislator(s)or appear personally to support the bill. Thank you. Sorry for the short notice.”
The 3 feet safe passage legislation has been adopted in many states. It's adoption in Arkansas will help protect not only bicyclists but motorists as well. It will also enhance the efforts of cities in Arkansas to achieve the coveted Bicycle Friendly Community designation from the League of American Bicyclists.
If possible, please come to Room 428 at the Capitol tomorrow to show your support for HB 2511. Also, please take a few minutes to contact the House Members who are on the Public Transportation Committee. The names of the Transportation Committee members & a link to their e-mail addresses is found at:
http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/scripts/ablr/committees/ARcommittee3afm.asp?ccode=840
We recognize that the late hour at which BACA received this notice & is forwarding it to you leaves little time to act. However, thanks very much for whatever you can do to help get this important bicycle safety measure enacted.
The complete text of the bill may be viewed by going to:
http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/
then clicking on “Bills and Resolutions” on the left side of the screen, then clicking on “Full Text of a Bill” on the drop down menu, & then entering HB2511 in the box “2. Enter Bill Number ______ View Bill.
Thx
Mountain Biking in AR...<--Posted Saturday, March 3, 2007 by Gary

Copped from Bike Arkansas the link to the Arkansas Media Room....here's a blurb...
"Over the years, the state has become somewhat of an under the radar mecca for mountain biking. Only 37 trails across the nation currently hold ‘Epic’ status. “Mountain biking in Arkansas is highly regarded for the variety of terrain.” said Mike Van Abel, executive director of IMBA, based in Boulder, CO. “It offers everything from mountain ridge lines to river valleys. The trails range from beginner-friendly smooth singletrack to rocky and challenging sections that demand expert bike skills. This range of experiences is what makes mountain biking in the state shine.” Another plus is that since Arkansas is centrally located in the nation, people throughout the country can get here in a reasonable amount of time."
It's pretty amazing what the Mt Biking community has access to here in Arkansas!
