"My Name is Norman Bates...I'm just a normal guy" Gotsta get something lighter out here on the news...Mongo here with a recipe since Gary is running from the FBI (Just kidding - not really :) and Doug says we all need digital antibotics or better yet....the Andromeda Strain scientist! Here's a healthy MT BIKING recipe and I suggest using the tequila in the recipe for optimum RPM's on your MT BIKE!

Internet viruses, and hoaxs on the loose....<--Posted Wednesday, April 21, 2004 by Doug
Hey everyone....Daron gave me a heads up today on how he recieved an e-mail today purporting to be from support at CARP Club asking for his account info. CARP did not and does not send this type of e-mail. Their are currently several internet viruses which take addresses and pieces of addresses out of e-mail clients and build their own text and request account information from you. We will never send you an e-mail asking for your account information. Please ignore any e-mails that read like this:

"Dear user, the management of Carpclub.com mailing system wants to let you know that, Your e-mail account will be disabled because of improper using in next three days, if you are still wishing to use it, please, resign your account information.

For details see the attached file.

    Sincerely, The Carpclub.com team"

DO NOT OPEN the attachement. The above message is a hoax most likely constructed from MyDoom, Netsky.B, Beagle, and Magistra viruses. etc. It does not mean your PC has the virus...only that someone's e-mail client may have contracted the virus. If you get an e-mail and are unsure about it...please don't hesitate to e-mail Gary or myself to verify the e-mail was sent. You can also visit Symantec.com and do a search on keywords and/or virus names. Hopefully everyone is running antivirus software with current definitions which checks your incoming e-mail. If you recieve a suspicious e-mail...PLEASE, please question and verify the e-mail. Make sure your virus scanner has the latest defintions and is actively scanning your e-mail as it arrives. Be sure to run a full anti-virus scan at least once a week also. The digital world is the wild wild cyber west and its in a most obnoxious form on the e-mail side lately.

    Thx

    Update
Wanted to add....while were on the topic of hoaxs, viruses and such....please be aware their are live crafty dark individuals who also can spoof e-mail addresses and will request account information from you directly. I've personally seen html e-mails purporting to be from nationally recognized banks asking me for account info with addresses with vary minor change to avoid notice. These individuals are clever since they cover their tracks using offshore proxy spam PCs located around the globe in Malaysia, China, Europe, etc. My point is do not trust e-mail if its the slightest bit suspicious. Verify and confirm if you have the slightest concerns. Never give sensitive information out by e-mail to anyone.....and Gary will appreciate this.....the FBI will never send you an e-mail saying your in trouble and under indictment...if the FBI wants you...they come to you personally without you knowing until the moment they arrive :-)

P.S. If your running DSL or Cable broadband connection, you had better have a firewall of some type - either software enabled like Zone Alarm or via NAT built into a router. Dial-up is not immune either...before I installed a firewall I was port scanned on a regular basis from the Milan School of Technology in Italy, China, and various pirate ISP's in South America.

     Bikeseller/Chainwheel Rides<--Posted Tuesday, April 20, 2004 by Gary

    *****************

Bikeseller.com wants you to ride mountain bikes with us! We have two regular rides: On Thursdays, we meet at Boyle Park for a training ride. The pace is generally moderate to fast, designed to get the heart rate up and some quick miles down! The ride leaves the parking lot by the basketball courts at 6:15 p.m. and lasts roughly 1.5 hours.
On Saturdays, especially for beginner to intermediate riders, we meet at Camp Robinson, the local mountain bike Mecca. The ride leaves the "Summer Parking" Lot, which is the traditional parking lot, at 8:00 a.m. sharp. This ride is intended to provide beginner riders an idea how to negotiate the trail system in the area, riding tips and teach basic trail side maintenance. Please note that in order to gain access to Camp Robinson, as it is a military facility, you must have the following items in good standing: a C.A.R.P. card (Central Arkansas Recreational Peddlers) which you can grab at bikeseller.com or online at www.carpclub.com if you don't already have one, a valid driver's license, current insurance, and current registration. Be sure to sign in and out at the police station after you have checked in at the front gate.

  • We've had some interest from local newspapers about interviewing Mt Bikers for an info type report on Mt Biking. We'll get more info out on this as I hear it.

  • Online HouseKeeping
***Folks who do not finish the online registration process for whatever reason are not sent a CARP card nor can they purchase a Jersey. You can login to a newly created account or expired account, but the membership still must be paid to recieve your card and/or buy a jersey. New online logins created without payment go away in 48 hours.

***Family Memberships no longer exist*** - each rider must be a member with a current CARP membership.

***Bouncing e-mails*** - Remember to keep your e-mailboxes cleaned out. I get back lots of bounced e-mail for various reasons on the news e-mailing list. If mail bounces from your box, the address is removed which means you don't get my e-mails. Some ISP's have filtering turned on for list mails due to spam, etc. Nothing we can do there. You might contact the ISP to see if your e-mail can be configured for specific addresses.

  • Thx
