C.A.R.P. Sleeveless Jerseys....<--Posted Thursday, June 30, 2005 by Gary
|
We are looking into purchasing sleeveless jerseys. If you would like one please email Daron at daron@carpclub.com with the size you think you need. By doing this you are not ordering one, we just need to know if there is enough interest to order any. They will most likely by around $55 unless we get enough interest, the price could be lower. Please respond quickly so we can get the ball rolling as the ordering process takes time and we’d like to get them before summer is over.

Help make our trails safe!.........<--Posted Wednesday, June 8, 2005 by Gary

To All Carp Members: As some of you may know, Scott Saunders has been doing almost all of the maintenance on our trail system for the last 4 years. He has asked me to attempt to enlist some help. Most of the work needed can be done with a set of hand trimmers. You can put them in a jersey pocket, or carry them in a leather sheath on a belt. Scott’s idea is to post a list of all the trails on the map board at the parking area, when someone has trimmed a trail, they would write the date in the box next to the trail name. That way there would be a constant record of what has been done. It sounds like work, but if you make it part of a ride, it is not too bad. It also goes twice as fast if you and a friend work together. With your help we can keep the trails in good shape and safe to ride.
Thanks, Gary
P.S. Scott and his wife Sharon trimmed several trails last weekend. These are the trails that are done. 1. Entry trail 2. X-mas tree extension 3. X-mas tree trail 4. Outer loop 5. Airport loop 6. Buddha loop 7. Porta potty loop
Gary's Going Back To Kenya.......<--Posted Monday, June 6, 2005 by Gary

What could you do with $55? Buy a new tire for your Mountain Bike. Buy a new battery for your riding lawn mower. Get Junior that hot new game for his Gameboy. Buy a shirt at Dillards.
What if you could change someone’s life for the better, would you do it?
This August my wife and I will go back to Kenya, with a group from our church. The little town of Migori is where the hospital and orphanage is located. In Migori, bikes are everywhere. All the same, black and white, heavy steel, single speed (no gears), these bikes are their work-horses. Bikes are, not only transportation, but they are used for hauling produce, taxies (carrying people for money, an energy efficient, environmentally friendly, source of income), everything they own can usually be strapped to a bike and transported from one place to another. In a world where water is very scarce, a bike can mean the difference between a 2 or 3 hour walk both ways to the river, only to drag one or two smaller buckets of heavy water back to their families, to being less than half of that time, with more water, and the bike carrying the bulk of the heavy load. Many people walk for miles to the hospital, and orphanage, work all day, only to return home, by walking for miles after dark that night. Last year I saw the need, this year I plan to return to Migori and buy bikes. My goal is to buy and assemble a bike for every worker in both hospitals and the small orphanage while we are there.
To do this I’ll need your help. For $55 a bike can be purchased in Migori. No freight, no container fees, I assemble them. So.....what will it be? Another new shirt at Dillards? or the chance to change someone’s life?
