Wed Oct 5th - CARP Wed Ride/Cook-Out with ExtremeTrek.com<--Posted Friday, September 30, 2005 by Gary
Joe Jacobs from ExtremeTrek.com will be doing the CARP cookout next week, Wednesday, Oct. 5. You know the drill, except instead of Camp Robinson; because of dark coming so quickly now and we won't waste time checking in, we will be at Pavillion #6 in Burns Park. It's the pavillion above the water slide. Go to the visitor's center, but keep on going up the hill to the top. You'll see us up there. We will ride the trails at Burns Park or you can ride the River Trail. Hope to see you there.

http://www.extremetrek.com is a new outdoor gear on-line store based in Little Rock. We are currently supplying outdoor related books and hydration packs at bargain pricing and expect to expand our offerings in the near future. Our site is also information oriented with various pages including a message board devoted to enjoying the outdoor lifestyle. We think of ourselves as a resource for information and products.

Kenya Bicycle Pics....Thanks Again!<--Posted Sunday, September 25, 2005 by Gary
  • Pictorial Kenya Bicycles built and delivered:

Wanted to get some pics out here so the generous folks who donated bicycles to Kenya, could see their support completed. I had a great trip this year to Kenya. Their hospitality made it hard to remember I was there to help them. My mission this year was to raise money for bikes to give all the workers at the orphanage and two area hospitals. Thanks to a lot of you (Carp members) and many of the people who come in my shop (Lamb and Company Hairstyles) I raised money for over 100 bikes. It looks like we gave away a whole bike shop. We left the paper on the bikes because they wanted everyone to know they had a new bike. Several days later, as we left, we saw our bikes in town with the paper still on! Words cannot express the gratitude these people had for your generosity. Many could not ride a bike and had never owned one, but they were so excited about receiving one and learning to ride. You have changed their lives forever. Thank you for your trust and your prayers.

Thank-You again for your support! Fantastic Trip!

    Kenya!

    Check all the pics out!

  •  Gasoline $5.00 ?......Let us Bicycle Commute!<--Posted Thursday, September 22, 2005 by Gary
Ok...folks...its time for BICYCLES TO RISE....

    Snagged this from BACA's forums....

    ...yes from Channel 11.

It has been several years since I've had a serious schedule of riding to work, but I see literally dozens of cyclists riding to work in the morning who usually are all by themselves. At the time of this writing, Hurricane Rita is about to strike the Texas coast and with it comes the real threat of gasoline being five dollars a gallon in the near future if the damage is heavy.

I'm working with Pat Riley and the downtown Athletic Club to offer very cheap prices for people who ride their bikes to work downtown but who don't have shower facilities. Instead of having to join the club (which does have cheap dues), I'm working to have a per-shower charge of a dollar or so.

I've tried to reach the officers of BACA and ABC and haven't heard from either. If they aren't interested in this, maybe you will be as a rider. You can email me at apearson@kthv.gannett.com.

Thank-You to All Participants of 100 Minutes of C.A.R.P....Fantastic Event !<--Posted Monday, September 5, 2005 by Gary
Wanted to send out a big "Thank-You" to all the Mt Bike racers out there who made this year's 2005 "100 Minutes of CARP" a raging success! Thanks to Chainwheel for the massive sponsership and support! Thanks to our chief official Steve Shepherd and his beautiful wife Ruth who officiated and helped coordinate time tracking of the event. Thanks to all the volunteers who did gobs of work behind the scenes. The Eric's & Kevin's from Chainwheel....the support from Carve, ABC, and a host of folks who we've not mentioned here. Keep an eye out over at Chainwheel for Posted time results.

    Pics to browse SOON!....

As you know I'm in Kenya building bicycles in a culture where bicycles are valued as premium transportation. Imagine a country where vehicles are rare and most folks are walking on foot. A bicycle is a blessing indeed :-)

    Thanks
    Gary
