 Nov 6th, 2004 - 1st Annual Syllamo's Revenge Mountain Bike Challenge...<--Posted Sunday, October 31, 2004 by Gary
Block your calendars for Nov 6th, 2004 for the 1st Annual Syllamo's Revenge Mountain Bike Challenge in Mountain View, Arkansas. Chosen by Outside Magazine as one of the Top 20 Outdoor Destinations in the United States!

You won't want to miss 40+ miles of awsom mountain biking through the beautiful Ozark Mountains, followed by a free Shrimp Boil, to celebrate the offical opening of Phase II of the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail. Unlike many mountain bike trails that have a limited area for trail construction, the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail stretches over thousands of acres of the Ozark National Forest and offers riders changing scenery and beautiful views of the White River Valley, Sylamore Creek Valley, and the Ozark Mountains.

The cost of the event is $20 which will be given directly to the US Forest Service for matching funds needed to secure an already approved grant for construction of Phase III of the trail system. There will be rest stops with food and water, as well as SAG service.

The 24 miles of Phase I will challenge even the most advanced riders with sections of technical riding and plenty of vertical change. Phase II consisit of 16 miles, that while suited for riders fo all ability levels will give advanced riders rolling trails that are fast and exciting.

The ride will begin and end at the main trail head for Phase II in Blanchard Springs Recreation Area which is home of Blanchard Springs Caverns, one of the world's largest living caves. Camping, with hot showers is available and the shrimp boik for all riders and guests will be held at the Big Pavilion in the campground.

Click on the links below to see detailed descriptions of the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail and the area's accommodations.

If Your Running Late......<--Posted Friday, October 29, 2004 by Gary
Today (Sat), you can still sign up at Chainwheel in Little Rock to race this Sunday. If you just can't make it, Camp has now said, you can sign up the day of the race at Camp. You will have to get a visitor pass at the front gate, then sign up at the race area. This will take longer to get through the gate and be prepared to show your drivers license, proof of insurance, and current vehicle registration. Don't be surprised if they check your driving record (which better not have any wants or warrants). If any of this is a problem just ride with a friend. We don't want to miss the race! It's going to be dry, I can feel it. Be there in your costume for a chance to win $100.

100 Minutes Of C.A.R.P. Registration Deadline Changed to Friday Morning<--Posted Thursday, October 28, 2004 by Gary
We need to get the word out, the deadline to sign up online has moved up to Friday morning. We are happy to register everyone at the shop (Chainwheel) on Saturday till noon, but ANYONE missing the on-line deadline will have to get out of their cars and go through processing for a visitor's pass.

Finally, we should be able to register folks up top on Sunday morning once they've gotten a day pass. However, we will charge another $5 or so for same-day registration. Our worst nightmare is to have someone turned around at the gate because of a lack of awareness. We are afraid it's gonna be a problem for a few folks who drove over from TN or something.

We still need volunteers for pulling the signs and course cleanup after the race, this will be at your own pace bring a bike and a friend. Several hands make small work.
See you there,
Gary

BACA Candidates Forum 7 p.m. Thursday, October 7<--Posted Wednesday, October 6, 2004 by Gary
Reminder - BACA Candidates’ Forum, 7 p.m. Thursday, October 7, Oyster Bar, 3003 Markham

A number of candidates in contested races for the Pulaski County Quorum Court, the Little Rock & North Little City Councils, & the Arkansas General Assembly (Little Rock & North Little Rock area) will participate in a BACA Candidates’ Forum on October 7. We expect that each candidate’s time will be limited to no more than five minutes (perhaps less, depending on the number of candidates participating).

The candidates are all running for offices that set policy & provide funding for bicycling & trail projects. Although learning their views toward bicycling & trail development issues will help inform our decisions as voters, of greater importance is letting the candidates know of the community of support for and concern about those issues. You can do the latter very easily: simply attend the meeting & enjoy the company of other BACA members & friends.

Please spread the word about the forum. Impressing the candidates with a large attendance at the forum is first class advocacy & very important to BACA’s efforts.

    Thanks.

    Ken Gould
