BACA To Present Reward In Jason Pratt Killing...<--Posted Saturday, October 21, 2006 by Gary
|
When Jason Pratt, a young bicyclist, was killed on August 5, 2005, by a hit and run driver, Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas (BACA) immediately responded by offering a $2500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime. On October 6, 2006, John Patrick Moody pled to guilty misdemeanor negligent homicide in Pratt's death and was sentenced to 11 months in jail, fined $1,000.00 and ordered to complete an alcohol treatment program. One witness, identification of Moody, and the vehicle was instrumental in the arrest and conviction.
On October 25, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., BACA will hold a press conference at the Little Rock Police Department, 700 West Markham St. and present the $2500.00 check. BACA SUPPORTERS ARE URGED TO ATTEND the press conference to demonstrate our concern for the safety of cyclists, as well as to show support for law enforcement in bringing the perpetrator to justice. If possible wear your BACA t-shirt.
Thx Gary

Ok..we got word this alert was erroneous. You would think these people would update their website? Oh..looks like they did.
Retraction: Light & Motion Not Recalling Bike Light Batteries
OCTOBER 20, 2006 -- MONTEREY, CA (BRAIN)—Reports that Light & Motion is recalling 1,700 ARC lithium ion bike light batteries are erroneous, said a representative of the company. The error occurred because the CPSC inadvertently re-announced a recall from two years ago.

Hey Everyone:
Our current e-mail list management application is not working out with our current web host. The CARP E-mail list will be moving this week to a new e-mail list management application. The new application is supported by our webhost. You may get a test e-mail or two. Just delete these test e-mails should you recieve one. The application change does not affect any of the membership management. The change is only for the e-mail list. You do not need to resubscribe to the list. No action is required on your part. You might double check your spam configuration to make sure CARP list mail arrives.
Thanks Gary
Please contact me directly if you wish to be removed from the list.

(1) BACA Meeting October 5, 2006 at 7:00 p.m., Oyster Bar - Candidates Forum
What a successful and exciting weekend for bicyclists and trail users in Central Arkansas. Now is the time to continue the work we have done in promoting the development of facilities and trails for bicyclists. We have invited candidates who are running for local offices (including Little Rock mayor, City Board of Directors & Quorum Court) to attend our October 5 meeting and address issues of interest to bicyclists & trail users. Please plan on attending this candidates forum to let those running for office who have a policy making role in trail and bicycling matters know that there are a large number of people concerned about these issues. Just showing up for the meeting is a very important bicycle advocacy activity. Plus, as always, there's good food & company readily available.
(2) Support the Fight Against Diabetes & Help the Diabetes Association Make Up for the Tour de Cure - Big Dam Bridge Opening Conflicting Dates
The following message about the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure should have been included in an e-mail last week to the BACA but in the rush of preparations for the Big Dam Bridge activities was inadvertently omitted. This year the date for the Tour de Cure conflicted with the bridge opening. As a result, participation in the Tour surely suffered. You can still show your support for the fight against diabetes & help out an organization that does great work by sending a donation to:
American Diabetes Association, Att'n:Jeff Riggs 320 Executive Court, Suite 104, Little Rock, AR,72205.
(3) This Friday - First Fridays Bike to Work/Breakfast at the River Market
DON'T FORGET - THIS FRIDAY MORNING: FIRST FRIDAYS BIKE TO WORK AND - OR BREAKFAST AT THE RIVER MARKET
Bike from the first parking lot (next to the kiosk) just before the I-430 Bridge & the River Trail at the foot of River Mountain Road to the Downtown Little Rock River Market at 6:30 a.m. this Friday (& the first Friday of every month).
To participate in First Fridays Bike to Work you need only show up & be ready to ride. The rides are very informal. THERE IS NO POLICE ESCORT, NO TRANSPORT FOR CLOTHING, NO PLACE TO LOCK UP YOUR BIKE (at the River Market there are bike racks to which your bike could be locked), NO EXTRA SECURITY FOR CARS LEFT IN THE PARKING LOTS, ETC. In short, no services, security, or support other than the group ride itself. Of course, participation does not require that you actually bike to work downtown. Some participants bike to breakfast at the River Market & then return.
Hope to see you there.
For details - Call Ken Gould: H - 225-5343; W - 324-9952; e-mail - lanskygould@comcast.net
(NOTE! We ride the first Friday of every month but not in rain, snow or if the streets are icy.)
