Work "Party!!!" for freeriders at Burns<--Posted Friday, October 31, 2008 by Gary
The Arkansas Freeride Society will be having a work party weekend on November 8th & 9th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. It will be held at the construction site for the dirt jump portion of Argenta Freeride Area in Burns Park. Work will consist of final raking, shaping, and packing of dirt jumps and a pump track. We’ll also be seeding and strawing portions of the park.

The AFS will provide food and drinks for all volunteers. There will be a prize raffle for bike industry T-shirts and merchandise. On Saturday night, we’ll have a premiere showing of New World Disorder 9, the latest and greatest mountain-bike freeride film from Video Action Sports.

Volunteers will only need to bring themselves, and a good attitude. We’ll ask that everyone wear closed-toe shoes and perhaps work gloves. If volunteers would like to bring their favorite shovel, hard rake, or tamper, that would be great. Please remember to label all personal tools with names, so they are easily recognizeable.

Don’t forget to bring your bikes! We want to work hard, but we also want to play on our new dirt jumps and pumptrack!

The Argenta Freeride Area is located at the base of the Quarry in Burn’s Park. From I-40 take exit #150/Burns Park exit, go south on Championship Dr. towards the river, through the golf course to the T in the road. Turn right at the T and drive west towards the Burns Park Soccer complex. Look for signs indicating the entrance to the bottom of the Freeride/quarry area on your right.

We need your bikes for Trails Symposium<--Posted Monday, October 27, 2008 by Gary
This year, Little Rock Arkansas, will host the 2008 National Trails Symposium. This is a fantastic chance to show off all that we have to offer in our great “Natural State”. There will be speakers from the U.S. and abroad. You can take advantage of educational opportunities and work with knowledgeable trails people that represent all aspects of trails from land managers, advocates, agencies, and designers, to planners, builders technicians, vendors, developers and enthusiasts.
Field trips are also a big part of the Symposium. All field trips are designed to give you a real taste of the host city and its many trail opportunities. One of those field trips is to be on our very own Carp Trails at Camp Robinson.
Daron Harris, Basil Hicks, and myself, plan to lead several small groups on Monday Nov.17th from 1:00pm to 5:30pm. We will explain trail design, layout, maintenance, etc. to groups of advanced, intermediate, and beginner riders. To do so we will need help from several of you. A. We will need volunteers to help facilitate logistics B. We will need several of you to be willing to loan your bikes to be ridden. (our commitment includes loaned or rented bikes for the 24 participants to ride). Your commitment would include dropping the bike/bikes off at a disclosed location a day ahead of time and then you pick them up Monday night at an agreed upon location. We will see that the riders are sized to the bike, and they have been instructed to furnish a helmet and pedals to ride.
If you haven’t signed up for the Symposium there is still time check out www.americantrails.org. for registration. Also please consider loaning your bikes for this field trip. For more information contact Basil Hicks 501-753-3946 basil.hicks@comcast.net or Gary Lamb 501-551-0038 or gary@carpclub.com. As of today we still need 20 bikes.
Thanks,
Gary Lamb

No Riding At Camp Next Weekend!<--Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008 by Gary
The CRWMP Cantonment Area 1 Deer Hunts will be 18-20 October 2008 and 13-15
December 2008. This area is restricted to CRWMP archery hunting activities
only during these periods. TA 2 or the "CARP Trails" will be closed to all
other activities.

This is the email, I received today. Oct. 18th -20th, Sat. Sun. and Monday, all day will be closed to CARP Members. As well as Dec. 13-15th, again Sat, Sun,and Monday. We worked with Camp to be able to narrow these hunts down to these two weekends, trust me this is a lot better than the original presentation. Don't bother driving out there you, won't be allowed in, I would suggest riding at Burns Park if you need to feed the monkey (and we all do). Burns is a great workout and a nice change of pace.
Thanks,
Gary Lamb

Two stops are not required....Amen!<--Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008 by Gary
Camp Robinson has finally opened the guard house at the main gate. Now when entering the base, you snake your way around (literally) to the house to the right, go inside and the guard will fill out your pass as usual. While he is doing that, you sign into the book that use to be at the police station. Once you have signed the little blue sheet, like always, that's it you're finished. Head to the trail head and have a great ride. No more stopping at the police station to sign in and out. Once finished riding, you go back down to the guard house and sign out. Yeah, yeah, I know we are still having to get a pass, but at least we only have to stop once. Lot's better than it use to be. Eventually, they say we will all be in the computer, and it should be even easier to get in to the uber trails of Camp.

RAWK! Maybe we can just have a barcode on our CARP card and scan-in!

New Mountain Bike Trail Down Southwest....!<--Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008 by Gary
There's a new Mountain Bike trail in Arkansas !

The Fern Hollow Trail, a 9.8 mile ride through the timberland of Southwest Arkansas. The trail was built by the good folks at White Oak Lake State Park near Camden. Beautiful rolling hills, lake views and great park facilities will make this a destination trail.

Arkansas State Parks will celebrate with a grand opening/ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th at the park followed by the inaugural ride. All mountain bikers are invited to witness the opening and enjoy the ride. For directions to the park go to: Maps & Directions. To download a map of the trail go to Fern Hollow Trail Map. For a map of the park go to White Oak Lake State Park.

For more information you can contact Joe Jacobs , Marketing & Revenue Manager, Arkansas State Parks at joseph.jacobs@arkansas.gov. Please feel free to share this information with anyone you think might be interested.
